here in Britain, a pair of trainers is a pair of running shoes or sneakers in American. A pair of trainers went for a run. They slipped out of the cupboard, crept through the front door and jogged down the road.

Left, right, left, right, left, right. They stopped by the post office to chat to a pair of high heeled shoes. Nice day for a run, said the right heel. We go out every day. Rain or shine, said the left trainer. And off they went to the park.
