The 100 Children of Ramesses II with Prof. Peter Brand
- Interview
- History
Ramesses is famous for fathering 100+ children. But what did all these princes and princesses do? Prof. Peter Brand joins us once more to explain the lives and roles of these children, how we know about them (or don't), what's up with those "Daughter Wives," and where all the 100+ children might be buried. Also, I read the entire list of children (all 100+) in their known order, from the monuments. Music by Luke Chaos. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hello, and welcome to a History of Egypt podcast interview episode. My guest today is Professor Peter Brand, who joins us once again to explain the life and reign of Ramesses II. Today, we discuss one of the more famous aspects of the king's rule, his many, many,
many, many children. With at least 45 sons and 56 daughters known to history, Remesies II might be the most prolific pharaoh of all time, certainly the horniest. But beyond that aspect of it, there's a few lingering questions.
Number one, what did all of these children actually do? How did they fit into the wider Egyptian society? Also, what's up with Remesies marrying his own daughters? And finally, if there were a hundred children, where are all of them buried?
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (41 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
