Last time, on October 11, 1942, what was to have been the start of the final battle of Guadalcanal with the Japanese having an intricate plan turned into a US Navy victory of sorts.
While most Japanese forces were successfully landed during this operation, the bombardment group was to have shelled Hendersonfield into oblivion, but that was roughly treated by Admiral Scott's task force. That it had been luck that put him and his in the right place at the right time did
not change the fact that the Americans had gotten back a bit of their own for the Battle of Savo Island. Still, as far as battles went, the Second Battle of Savo Island did not rot any major changes.
