The title of my mini-podcast is, The Pathway to Poise. The dictionary defines poise as a state of balance or equilibrium. When I think of someone who has poise, I picture a person who seems comfortable in their own skin. They're balanced. They're not easily thrown off by what's going on around them.
And I got me to wondering, how do people get that way? Here's what I've noticed. A poise person doesn't go off half-cocked. They don't feel the need to react to everything that comes their way. They wait.
They pick their shots, if they decide to take one at all. And something interesting can happen in that waiting period. They may discover that what they initially wanted to say or do isn't such a good idea after all.
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (2 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
