When Machines Have the Answers, Build Better Humans With AI Augmentation Not Automation (Vivienne Ming, Scientist, Professor, Author)
In this episode, theoretical neuroscientist Vivienne Ming discusses her new book, Robot Proof - When Machines Have All the Answers, Build Better People. The conversation examines the intersection of artificial intelligence and knowledge work, exploring how professionals can adapt to an increasingly automated economy. The discussion contrasts the limitations of basic AI task automation with the advantages of human-AI collaboration—the "cyborg" model—for solving complex, ill-posed problems. Ming highlights her research on forecasting market outcomes, the critical role of endogenous motivation, and how the legal industry and other elite professions must rethink entry-level training. Hey everybody, it's Chad. We'll get to the show in just a second, but before we do, I wanted to tell you about a new app we rolled out called CERTERRA.AI. That's C-E-R-T-E-R-A.AI. What it is, it's an app that lets legal professionals run legal-related prompts through multiple AI models, and then they get to pick which response they think is better. The app keeps the leaderboard
ranking the models in real time. It just involves three steps. You enter a legal-related prompt, you review two responses from different AI models, you vote for the one you like better. If you're in anonymous mode, the app will randomly serve up responses from two LOM models, but they're not revealed until you vote.
You can also select the two models you want to pit head-to-head and choose the answer you like better there, too. There's also an anonymization feature that cleans up identifiers in the prompt. So, if you're a legal professional and you like comparing outputs from different AI models to see which one is better, I hope you check out certera.ai.
