How would you design your dream city? | James Rojas
- One speaker
- Society
Urban planner James Rojas has led hundreds of workshops where participants creatively design their ideal communities with small objects — and he's noticed that people of every age, income and background build strikingly similar places. Through play and storytelling, he shows how we can use our childhood memories and imaginations to shape the places we live and love. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

You're listening to TED Talks Daily, where we bring you new ideas to spark your curiosity every day. I'm your host, Elise Hugh. City to city, we have design processes for community input on local planning.
The idea being that of course people should have a say in shaping their neighborhoods, whether it's housing, businesses, transit, or parks. This is a clear, well-meaning, democratic idea. If only it were that easy in practice.
If you have ever sat through a community meeting about a new development in your neighborhood, you probably know the feeling. The unreadable maps, the confusing surveys, the handful of loud voices while everyone else stays quiet.
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (14 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
