I'm Dr. Anthony Leiserwitz and this is Climate Connections. Museums give visitors an engaging, hands-on way to learn how science shapes the world. And Chevy Humphrey, CEO of the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, says they can also get people thinking and talking about climate change.
I think museums are an incredible platform and a foundation for providing information and facts for people to actually develop their own insights and their own agency to do something. For example, in one exhibit at the Griffin, visitors learn about different forms of clean electricity and how to lower their energy use at home. In another exhibit, they watch a time-lapse
video of glaciers over 10 years. And you see the melting and you see before and after pictures. The Griffin is also updating their human body exhibit to include information about how climate hazards like the wildfire smoke that reached Chicago this summer can harm people. How do I protect myself? What does this impact want to be on my lungs, on my body?
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (1 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
