Hello and thanks for downloading the More or Less podcast. We are the programme that looks at the numbers in the news, and in life, and in the population of China. I'm Tim Harford. Loyal listeners Andrew and Thomas emailed in to our statistical sleuthing agency, more or less at bbc.co.uk, to ask us to look at the numbers stated in a viral video that they,
along with hundreds of thousands of other people, had seen on the Gram. The numbers in question were of a demographical nature, specifically the population of China. Now it has long been understood and accepted that China is a big country with lots of people. According to the UN and the Chinese government,
the population of China is somewhere around 1.4 billion people. At least, it was accepted until this video. You are ready for the number? Yes.
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (8 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
