Three hours, 56 minutes, and 28 seconds. That's how long it took 17-year-old Wyatt Anderson to complete the Chicago Marathon earlier this month, less than a year after he was paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury. In November, Wyatt was paralyzed from the neck down after a sports injury.
He had spinal fusion surgery and many months of rehab to follow. A therapist encouraged him to set a goal to motivate himself and so he decided he wanted to walk or run a marathon within 12 months. And with the encouragement of family and friends, Wyatt worked day by day toward the goal.
And on the day of the marathon, with his brother supporting and running alongside him, it completed the race with a surprisingly good time. What a picture of the Christian life. May we also run our race alongside other believers, bearing each other's burdens and encouraging each other to the end.
