Episode 133 - Reframing the concept of effort
- Language learning

Hello everybody, this is Richard Watson and Anglais the Easy Way. And today I'd like to talk about reframing effort. Now if you didn't understand that word it's because I didn't say effort because that's not how you pronounce it. We call it effort. Now the idea is don't try harder, try more. So here's the question. Do you need to
make a lot of effort to learn English. And obviously the answer is yes. Work harder, concentrate harder, revise harder, force yourself to remember things. But maybe we're actually mixing up two different things. Maybe we're mixing up making an effort and trying. Now I'm not saying that learning happens by magic. I'm saying that the mechanism may be less
about straining and struggling and more about repetition and trying things. If it is very useful, but it costs a lot, maximum concentration is not something you can do all day. You may remember a podcast where I talked about a book called Thinking Fast and Thinking
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (5 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
