This is NPR News Now. The latest headlines every hour. Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. New York City Mayor Azaram Mamdani is calling for federal immigration officers to leave his city following a shooting that wounded a man in the Marble Hill neighborhood.
New York City will not stand by while ICE agents shoot New Yorkers and we will not back down From the demand that so many including myself have put forward time and again This is an agency that must be abolished speaking at a press conference Thursday evening Mondani said a five-year-old child was with the man in his car at the time of the shooting but was unharmed
Mondani said he spent two hours on the phone with President Trump and Homeland Security Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen, but that his efforts to free the man failed. Following treatment at a hospital where protesters clashed with police, Momdani said the man was taken away by ICE agents in an unmarked vehicle.
