Hi, I'm Alex Goldman. You may know me as the host of Reply All, but I'm done with that. I'm doing something else now.

I've started a new podcast called Hyperfixed. On every episode of Hyperfixed, listeners write in with their problems and I try to solve them.

Some massive and life-altering and some so minuscule it'll boggle your mind. No matter the problem, no matter the size, I'm here for you.

That's Hyperfixed, the new podcast from Radiotopia. Find it wherever you listen to podcasts or at hyperfixedpod.com. Do you ever meet someone and think, wow, they've really been through it, and then realize we all

have? That's what We're All Insane is all about. It's a podcast where real people sit down to share their stories that have shaped them, the raw, unfiltered moments that don't usually make it into everyday conversation. There are no scripts, no interruptions, and no filters, just honest storytelling that unfolds naturally.

From heartbreak and loss to recovery and resilience, every episode is a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we're never really alone.

If you love hearing real stories that make you feel something, stories that connect us all, this is one you'll want to subscribe to.

You can listen to We're All Insane wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes every Sunday. Hello, hello, and welcome back to the RR Show. I'm your host, Jane, and today's episode is

dedicated to one simple truth. The people around us are deeply unpredictable. And unfortunately, some of them are also completely unhinged. We've got petty revenge, manipulative relationships, chaotic confrontations, and enough questionable human behavior to make you lose your faith in humanity just a little bit. So honestly, settle in. It's going to be a weird one today.

Before we descend into all that chaos, if you've got a story of your own, whether it's awkward, messy, hilarious, or just deeply unhinged, those are my favorite kind, you can send it over to us at mystoryatdisturbedpodcast.com. Now, today's first story comes from fondant number 3106, who used to work the front desk at a hotel and made one innocent mistake, one lapse in professional

judgment. Unfortunately, that one mistake involved giving a stranger access to the room of the angriest hotel guest imaginable with some pretty unexpected results. So let's dive right in. A few years ago, I worked the front desk at a hotel with a lot of long-term corporate guests. You know the type, consultants, engineers, sales guys, people who own exactly three polo shirts and expense every meal.

And among these guests, there was one man who really stood out. I'll call him Alan. Alan had two hobbies, existing and being angry about it. This man complained professionally.

If misery paid hourly, Alan would have retired early. Fire alarm goes off. Alan is downstairs yelling at us while we're actively trying to evacuate people from the building. Restaurant closed on a Sunday.

Clearly my personal decision. National holiday. An unforgivable insult, apparently all orchestrated by me. I once watched him get angry at the weather.

Not mildly annoyed. Angry. Like the clouds had violated a service agreement. So naturally, the hotel staff became incredibly motivated to avoid upsetting Alan.

Not out of kindness or because we valued him as a customer, but for survival. There are only so many times a middle-aged businessman can scream at you about a continental breakfast before you start looking into witness protection. One quiet afternoon, I'm working the front desk alone and everything was actually pretty peaceful for once.

And then a woman walks in. She's excited, maybe a little bit nervous, and she's carrying a bag. She comes up to the front desk smiling and asks for Alan's room number. The hotel policy says you absolutely do not give out guest room information.

Ever. Under any circumstances. So I told her politely that I was sorry, but I couldn't give out that kind of information. And maybe she should try giving him a call instead.

Immediately, she looks devastated. And then she says, Oh, I'm his fiancé. I traveled all this way to surprise him. Now this is where my survival instincts betrayed me.

In that moment, my brain did not think, follow policy. My brain thought, if you ruin this man's surprise reunion, Alan is going to scream at you. So instead of behaving like a trained hospitality professional, I made one of the worst decisions of my working life. Not only did I give her the room number, I made her a key. Because, you know, what could possibly go wrong? And honestly, at the

time, I felt pretty good about it. Look at me, helping love win. Five minutes later, the elevator doors opened. And this woman comes sprinting through the lobby in tears. Not crying politely, full emotional collapse. Running out of the front doors like she's just escaped a haunted house. And the second she disappeared outside, every organ in my body shut down simultaneously.

Because now I know two things. Number one, I have made a terrible mistake. Number two, that mistake involves Alan. I started preparing for my inevitable death, briefly wondering how hard it would be to fake my own identity on such short notice.

Could I move to another country? Change my name to something untraceable? Maybe become a shepherd somewhere remote? And then on cue, here comes Alan. He storms toward the desk looking furious. Nuclear levels of furious. And the worst part? He was completely justified. He reaches the front desk and starts unloading. Apparently, Alan is single. Alan sees absolutely no reason to close

a bathroom door when he's alone in his hotel room and unfortunately Alan currently has a stomach bug. And then for maximum psychological damage he informs me that the bathroom door faces directly toward the main room entrance. So this poor woman opens the hotel room expecting a romantic reunion and instead she made eye contact with a violently ill naked man fighting for his life on a toilet.

After painting this deeply unnecessary mental image I absolutely did not need,
