Here's your midday brief for Friday, October 2nd. I'm Alex Ocela for The Wall Street Journal. U.S. hiring slowed last month. The economy added 29,000 jobs, short of the 84,000 jobs economists expected, and the unemployment
rate edged up to 4.2 percent. It was the kind of jobs report that markets like. Not too hot and not too cold. Stocks rose, with the Nasdaq up about 1 percent in morning trading, and bonds rallied
as investors pared back their bets that the Fed's going to be aggressive with rate hikes. The group of seven major economies agreed to release 100 million barrels of crude oil and fuel from their emergency stocks within four months. They're also not going to restrict oil exports.
