Here is your morning brief for Wednesday, October 21. I'm Luke Fargus for The Wall Street Journal. SpaceX shares are up more than 9 percent off-hours after Elon Musk said that SpaceX and Tesla have formed special committees to discuss a potential merger.
Musk said a tie-up could bring together the company's efforts on chip design, AI, robotics, and more. Even if shareholders are open to the deal, though, a combination would face regulatory scrutiny due to its scale and size.
That said, the news is boosting the AI trade this morning with NASDAQ futures gaining and Asian chipmaker stocks rebounding from yesterday's tough session. The yield on 10-year French government bonds has reached 5% for the first time since 2002 as the country continues to grapple with nationwide unrest.
