Welcome to Tech News Briefing. It's October 7th. I'm Danny Lewis for the Wall Street Journal. For months, the drumbeat of worries about the rapid advancement of AI technology has steadily increased, especially since former anthropic researcher Jacob Coxen publicly left the cloud maker over safety concerns amid news stories about AI agents hacking
other companies on their own. The AO's had developed goals no one intended and carried out what would have been a federal felony if a human had done it. Coxen spoke this week during a marathon hearing held by the New York City Council as lawmakers
are considering a spate of bills to rein in the technology. The hearing lasted all day as representatives from major companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Google were grilled about their approaches to the risk posed by AI. Wall Street Journal reporter Kevin Dugan was there and he joins us now.
That was the opening. The rest of the episode (10 min) is in the player: every word clickable, with translation, saved words and flashcards.
