Hello there and welcome to Focus on Africa. I am Unkei-Chi Obunna. The UN says around 50,000 people fleeing the war in Sudan have crossed into the eastern part of Chad this year alone.
We speak to the original director of eastern and southern Africa at the UN refugee agency who has just concluded a visit to Chad. What I saw this time are people even more fragile, even more vulnerable. Because in addition to what they are fleeing, meaning the conflict, there is also additional
vulnerabilities that you have inside Darfur now. It's also the impact of lack of water, lack of basic services. So the level of destitution is growing. And access to education for deaf children remains a challenge.
