ABC Listen, podcasts, radio, news, music and more. I love spying on spy stories. We do, don't we? Spy came in from the cold. What a book and what a movie. John Le Carre, what an author. And all the Bond movies, love them. Intelligence work of course is by nature's secret, much of it takes place beyond public view by design.
Yet the physical artifacts of that world survive and they offer a lot of insights into the history of war and diplomacy and intrigue and technological innovation. Mike Pritchard's got a background in IT and cybersecurity and he's spent the last 15 years tracking down and collecting the artefacts of espionage from all around the world.
He's worked alongside collaborators in Australia and overseas and he's assembled what's regarded as one of the world's top 10 collections of spycraft and intelligence with the long long-term ambition of establishing Australia's first dedicated spy museum. We won't be able to tell you where it is because that'll be a secret of course.
