is Monday 7th September 2026. Starting in Europe today. In Germany, there was an election for the Parliament of the State of Saxony-Anhalt yesterday. At the time of recording, the votes are still being counted. However, the far-right AFD party appears to have won the most seats.

Some polls predicted that the AFD would win a majority of seats. If this does happen, then it would be the first time that a far-right party had controlled a state parliament since World War II. In 2024, the AFD won the most seats in the Turingia state election.
