The Walk-In Clinic

Joe started working at a restaurant on Main Street two weeks ago. He liked the job. The kitchen was busy, the other cooks were friendly, and the chef let him make his famous chicken soup on Fridays.

On Saturday afternoon, Ana's phone rang. It was Joe.

"Don't worry," he said. "Everything is OK. But I cut my hand."

Ana immediately worried. "How bad is it?"

"It's not bad. But it's still bleeding a little. The chef says I need stitches. He says I have to see a doctor today."

Ana looked at her list on the fridge. Find a family doctor. It was on the list from the first week. They were still on a waiting list. The woman on the phone said it could take months.

"We don't have a doctor," Ana said.

"The chef says go to a walk-in clinic," Joe said. "He's driving me to one on Broadway. Can you meet me there?"

Ana asked Mrs. Park to watch the children for an hour. Mrs. Park agreed immediately and started teaching Mia how to make dumplings.
