First Day of School

Today is a big day. Today, Leo and Mia start school.

Leo is in Grade 7. Mia is in Grade 1. The school is ten minutes from the house. It is a big red building with a playground.

Ana is nervous. She checks the school bags three times.

"Lunch? Yes. Water bottle? Yes. Indoor shoes? Yes."

"Indoor shoes?" Joe asks. "What are indoor shoes?"

"In Canada, children have shoes for inside the school," Ana says. "Because of the rain and the mud."

"Canada has a lot of rules about shoes," Joe says.

At the school, the office is busy. A woman with short grey hair comes to meet them. Her name is Ms. Wong. She is the principal.

"Welcome!" she says. "Leo, your class is on the second floor. Your teacher is Mr. Brown. Mia, your teacher is Mrs. Singh. She is very nice. Come with me."
