This BBC podcast is supported by ads outside the UK. Hello and welcome to Soudley, a village in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. It is one of England's largest ancient forests. It was decreed a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror.

It later became a source of timber for the navy's Tudor warships and later an industrial hub for coal mining, ironworks and brickworks. Now it is still a working forest but it also attracts visitors to its walking trails and natural beauty while the local residents try to preserve the area's landscape and its traditions.

We are at Sudley Village Hall, which was built with Caulfield's regeneration funding in the 70s and has recently been upgraded by a team of volunteers to offer an all-purpose venue for this village community. Joining me here is Darren Jones, the Labour MP for Bristol-Northwest and the former Chief
