Emii Alrai is an artist whose work spans material investigation in relation to memory, critique of the western museological structure and the complexity of ruins. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, her work operates as large-scale realms built in relation to bodies of research which concern archaeology and the natural environments objects are excavated from. Good afternoon, good morning, good evening, wherever you are in the world. My name is Robert Diamond and you're listening to Talk Art. Welcome to Talk Art. Now today I am feeling allured or magnetised or enthralled and definitely enraptured because today I have the great privilege of sitting opposite a dear friend of mine who actually in a way, I think we
were friends first. I discovered her work through Quench and she's now become a colleague because since that show I remember the day that Carl Friedman, who I work with here in Margate, he came up to me and said, what about Emmy Elry? She's so incredible. And yeah, they'd become friends as well, I think in the meantime. Yeah, it's just been a wonderful experience
over the past kind of six to eight months where we've really got to know each other because Emmy came to stay for many months in Margate thanks to Tracey Emin's international kind of artist residency. And even though Emmy lives in Scotland, she managed to get onto that incredible programme. And she had a studio here for about four to six months.
