Steve Pinkston has killed three bucks over 200 inches — and never entered a single one in the record books. Owner of Hardcore E-Cycles and a member of the Whitetail Addiction team, Steve has spent over 45 years chasing whitetails with a bow, and since 2011 he's hunted the Ohio rut just twice. Since 2019, he hasn't carried a tag past October 13th — five of those kills came on the first sit, three on opening day. I shouldn't say very rarely. I never hang a stand that I'm hoping to have action at. I hang a stand today I expect to have action. That man is Steve Pinkston. Steve's been bow hunting whitetails for over 45 years, and he's managed to tag three bucks, grossing over 200 inches along the way.
I like to key in on that first week or so of the season. That's when they're very predictable. Here's some mind-blowing stats. Since 2011, Steve has only hunted the Ohio rut twice. And since 2019, Steve has not had a buck tag in his pocket past October 13th. Five of those kills coming on the very first set, three of them on opening day.
When that light and variable wind turns to nothing, I'm telling you, you are absolutely golden. The last 10 bucks I've killed, I've done it in that situation. In this episode of the Modern Whitetail podcast presented by Hawk Optics, we're talking about how to fill your buck tag in the early season.
