朝这个点移动,用 come 和 bring;离开这个点,用 go 和 take。

我在办公室、你在家,我会说「Can you bring the file?」——文件朝我而来。你在家则说「I'll take the file」——它正离你而去。

把两句都补完整:(a)「Please ___ some wine when you come.」(b) 你朋友说:「I'll ___ some wine to the party.」

「Come here.」「She's coming to my house.」「Are you coming to the party?」

「I'm going to the shop.」「He went home.」「Let's go.」

  • Come to my office at three. — toward me
  • I'm going to your office at three. — away from me
  • She came to see me yesterday. — toward me
  • She went to see him yesterday. — away from me, toward a third party
  • Are you coming? — toward me or toward where we're both heading

「I will go to your party」语法没问题,但在母语者耳中显得冷淡,因为它把听话人所在的地方当成了「别处」。「I'll come to your party」更温暖、也自然得多,因为移动是朝听话人去的。

bring 之于 come,正如 take 之于 go。

「Bring me a glass of water.」「She brought a cake to the party.」「Don't forget to bring your passport.」

「Take these books to the library.」「I took my laptop to work.」「Take an umbrella.」

  • Bring your friend to dinner. — to my house
  • Take your friend to the station. — away from here
  • Can you bring the report to my desk? — toward me
  • I'll take the report to her desk. — away from me
  • Bring it back tomorrow. — return it to me

当你在家里谈论待会儿要出门时,「I will bring my sister to the cinema」是错的——电影院远离你,所以要用 take。

但英语允许我出于礼貌采用你的视角:「I'll come to your party.」「I'll bring the wine.」拒绝这种位移——说成「I'll go to your party」「I'll take the wine」——就显得疏远,像是你在场外描述那个晚上。

  • I'll come to your house at eight. — natural and warm
  • I'll go to your house at eight. — grammatical, oddly detached
  • Shall I bring anything? — standard party phrase
  • Shall I take anything? — sounds like you're removing things
  • Can I come and see you? — the normal request
  • Can I go and see you? — sounds wrong to a native ear

5是 come with me,不是 go with me

COME WITH ME。

  • Come with me. — the standard invitation
  • Go with me. — unusual; sounds like a request for a favour
  • Do you want to come with us? — natural
  • Do you want to go with us? — possible but less common
  • I'll come with you. — correct, adopting your viewpoint

在美式英语里,不带宾语的「come with」——「Do you want to come with?」——在口语中同样常见,而且完全自然。

come with me 是发出邀请,let's go 是启动行动。「Let's come」是错的。

「Come to me」和「come with me」意思不同。come to me 是靠近我所在的位置;come with me 是陪我一起去别的地方。

Tip: come with me 和 let's go 是英语口语中出现频率最高的移动表达之一。

6fetch、carry 和 get

fetch 本身包含一趟往返:「Could you fetch my coat?」

carry 只描述这个身体动作,完全不涉及说话人:「She was carrying a heavy bag.」 「I carried it to the car」没问题;「I took it to the car」也没问题,只是侧重略有不同。

「Can you get me a coffee?」「I'll go and get it.」

  • drop off — take something and leave it there
  • pick up — collect something or someone
  • deliver — bring formally, usually as a service
  • come by / drop by — visit briefly

pick up 和 drop off 在日常约定里极其常见——「I'll pick you up at seven」「can you drop it off on your way?」——而且两者都不要求你先解决 bring/take 的问题。

Tip: 当你实在在 bring 和 take 之间拿不定主意时,get 和 pick up 是母语者天天在用的自然退路。

  • Would you like to come to dinner? — inviting to my place
  • Are you coming tonight? — asking about my event
  • I'd love to come. — accepting
  • I can't come, sorry. — declining
  • Shall I bring anything? — the standard offer
  • Can I bring a friend? — asking to add someone

自然的说法是「I can't come」或「I can't make it」。

come over 是美式英语的标准说法,come round 属于英式,两者都比「come to my house」更亲切。

Tip: Shall I bring anything?

  • come across — find by chance, or give an impression
  • come up with — think of an idea
  • come up — arise, or be mentioned
  • come back — return
  • come out — be published or released; also, reveal something personal
  • come round — visit, or regain consciousness
  • come along — make progress, or accompany
  • come down with — start to be ill
  • go on — continue, or happen
  • go off — explode, ring, or spoil (of food)
  • go through — experience something difficult, or examine
  • go over — review
  • go out — leave socially, or stop burning
  • go back — return
  • go ahead — proceed, or a permission phrase
  • go without — manage in the absence of

come up with an idea、go off(说牛奶变质)和 come down with a cold,都只是把移动动词当成一个外壳,装着一个不相干的意思。

就日常使用而言,这两份清单里价值最高的三个是 come up with、go on 和 come across。

于是就有了英语本该用 come 的地方冒出「I will go to your party」——语法没错,社交上却是冷的。

如果从来没有人教过你礼貌位移,那就假定你正在不知不觉地说出「I'll go to your party」和「I'll take the wine」。

  • come on — hurry up, or expressing disbelief
  • how come? — why? (note: followed by normal word order, not a question)
  • come to think of it — now that I consider it
  • when it comes to — regarding
  • go for it — do it, encouragement
  • go ahead — proceed
  • here we go — starting something
  • there you go — handing something over, or expressing agreement
  • easy come, easy go — about money or luck
  • come rain or shine — regardless of circumstances

它的意思是 why,但和 why 不同,它后面接陈述语序:是「How come you didn't call?」而不是「How come didn't you call?」

when it comes to 是写作和口语考试里性价比极高的表达:「When it comes to grammar, she's the best in the class.」

there you go 和 here you go 并不能在所有语境里替换 there you are 和 here you are,尽管两组有重叠。here you go 用在把东西递给别人的时候;there you go 还可以表示「我早就说了吧」。

Tip: 这里最有用的两项是 how come 和 when it comes to。

  • I'm going down with a cold → I'm coming down with a cold
  • Go on, tell me → correct as written
  • He goes across as arrogant → He comes across as arrogant

我在办公室会说「bring me the file」,你在家里则说「I'll take the file」——两句都对,因为你们站的位置不同。

为什么大家说「I'll come to your party」而不是「go」?

「I'll go to your party」语法没错,却疏远得奇怪,像是你在场外描述那个晚上。

该说「come with me」还是「go with me」?

come with me。 在美式英语里,不带宾语的「do you want to come with?」

fetch 的意思是去某处、取到东西、再回来——它本身包含一趟往返:「Could you fetch my coat?」 日常口语里,get 和 pick up 比 fetch 更常用,而且顺便绕开了 bring/take 的抉择。

bring/take 的规则适用于短语动词吗?

come up with an idea、go off(说牛奶变质)和 come down with a cold,与移动、与说话人的位置都毫无关系。
