From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Mike Miles. Job action creating travel turbulence for WestJet flyers, with more than 4,000 flight attendants walking off the job today. The two sides, though, are still bargaining.

Philip Lee Shanach has more. We need an end to unpaid work. Gina McKay, president of CUPE Manitoba, joins WestJet attendants picketing outside the Winnipeg-Richardson International Airport. Cameron Jones is with CUPE's bargaining committee.

He says the union and airline negotiators are already back at the table in Calgary. We've had our priorities of unpaid work and getting a reasonable wage increase. WestJet says it's disappointed its offer of a double-digit wage increase, plus an hourly rate covering time worked before and after flights, was rejected.

Aviation analyst John Gradek says U.S. airlines began compensating for so-called ground pay, and so did Air Canada after a flight attendant strike last year. With this ground bay now being recognized and officially showing up on flight attendant's paychecks, I think it's WestJet.

The federal government has not said it will intervene, but a mediator has met with the Union and WestJet in Calgary. Philip Lee Shannock, CBC News, Toronto. BC wildfire officials say the passage of a cold front Saturday

threatened to send the Pear Lake and French Bar Creek fires spreading in several directions. But this past hour, Operations Director Cliff Chapman reported they were able to control that. We have been successful in steering the predominant number of the fires away from communities, away from structures, and our structure protection and structure defense resources

have been extremely successful on the fires in and around Clinton, 70 Mile, and the Inner Lakes. 8,500 properties across BC are under evacuation orders or alerts. And in the Okanagan, lines for emergency support are growing after thousands of people were forced to flee the fires on the west side of Okanagan Lake.

Brady Strachan has been talking to evacuees in West Kelowna. The parking lot here at the West Bank Lions Hall in West Kelowna is full with evacuees waiting for emergency support services. Some people are here in their RVs or camper vans.

Others have their vehicles full with pets and possessions that they grabbed before. They were forced to leave their home yesterday. Now, this fire was fanned by strong winds on Saturday, forcing the evacuation of the entire Okanagan Indian Band Main Reserve. Many people have arrived with their pets, including Tiffany Wilson, who, along with her children, has a truck with three chickens, a dog and a lizard in an aquarium.

Yeah, we have quite the little petting zoo. It was a lot of emotion. The strong, gusty winds yesterday have not returned today. It's much calmer here with Environment Canada saying wind gusts up to about 25 kilometres an hour by late afternoon.

Oh my gosh. Eyewitnesses drive past huge flames near Spokane. a city of about 230,000 people. A massive Spokane complex wildfire has burned nearly 3,000 acres

and forced thousands of people to evacuate. Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown. We're here today to discuss really the worst natural disaster our region has faced. Hundreds of homes and structures have been lost.

We are still assessing the potential for lives to be lost. As well, there are widespread power outages. Officials have declared a statewide state of emergency. Across eastern Washington and Oregon states and western Idaho, there are currently 10 major wildfires burning.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are ending. That's Scotland's Sandy Tom kicking off this year's closing ceremonies. Team Canada is finishing third place overall, delivering standout results in judo, weightlifting, boxing and more. Canada's contingent is bringing home a whopping 62 medals, including 19 golds.
