From CBC News, The World This Hour, I'm Kaz Bovin. People in and around the community of 70 Mile House in B.C.'s Caribou region are being told to get ready for a planned evacuation order. It takes effect on Monday at 10 a.m. Pacific. This comes as officials say two nearby wildfires have merged after triggering evacuations in and around the village of Clinton.

Fire Information Officer Shaley Stern says a portion of nearby Highway 97 remains closed. With the prevailing drought conditions, we are still anticipating to see quite elevated behavior on these incidents throughout the day, especially where the cloud cover starts to dissipate and that solar radiation can get down to the forest fuels. So we're still anticipating growth on these incidents and we are already seeing elevated fire behavior.

Meanwhile, officials in B.C.'s central Okanagan region have lifted an evacuation alert for more than 500 homes in the La Casa area. A wildfire in that region is still considered out of control, but containment efforts have made progress. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes due to massive wildfires burning across southern Europe. French crews are racing to build fire breaks as flames are marching toward Bordeaux.

William Denslow reports. firefighters are working tirelessly here to clear trees clear brush from the approaching blazes this is to create a line in the sand a line to hold for fire responders that are lining up along the streets that i'm speaking to from to try and create a buffer between the approaching blazes

and communities not yet impacted by the fire. Speaking to roughly 30 kilometers, about 20 miles or so from the city center of Bordeaux, officials say that the flames are at the gates of the city. Firefighters here working desperately to keep the flames at bay.

For CBC News, I'm William Denslow in Gironde, France. German police have shot dead the man suspected of carrying out a deadly attack at Berlin's Pride celebration yesterday. One person was killed and 29 others were injured.

Philipp Lee Schenock reports. Florian Nath of the Berlin police say officers cornered the suspect in a garden in Spandau, a borough in western Berlin. He is said to have rushed towards our emergency forces

with a stabbing weapon, said Nath. Officers opened fire. Despite immediate resuscitation measures initiated by the Berlin Fire Department, he died at the scene.

Police were searching for 21-year-old Abdul Balut, who was suspected of ramming people with a van at the city's Teagarten Park during Berlin's Pride Parade. It's alleged he stabbed several people before fleeing the scene.

German authorities say Balut, who was born in Germany, had links to Islamist groups. Hans Jakob Schindler is an expert on security. He says barricades prevented the attacker from entering the main festival.

Teagarten is a huge park in the center of Berlin, So the attack happened at the other end of the park. Organizers say up to one million people participate in Berlin's Pride Parade each year. Philip LeShanock, CBC News, Toronto.

Toronto police are investigating after two locations of a Jewish-owned bakery chain reported damage Sunday morning. No injuries were reported, but Toronto Police Inspector Scott Bradbury says one location appeared to have been hit by gunfire. We understand that this is concerning for those that work and live in this area, especially members of the Jewish community. And we have all the resources available to thoroughly investigate this matter.

He says that includes Police Hate Crime Unit and Guns and Gangs Unit. This follows arrests made by police earlier this year after several Toronto-area synagogues were hit by gunshots. Finally, it was a golden day for Team Canada at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It's Ellie Black! It's gold again!

Canadian gymnast Ellie Black took gold medal at the all-around event eight years after winning that same event in Australia. Also on Sunday, Josh Liendo won gold in the 100-meter butterfly, touching the wall 50.42 seconds, a new Commonwealth Games record.
