Is Following Jesus Actually Worth It?

Have you ever wondered if following Jesus is actually worth it? Maybe you've never said those words out loud, but if we're honest, you've probably felt them before. You see people cutting corners and somehow getting ahead, living however they want and they seem happy, chasing success, comfort, money, approval. And from the outside, it looks like life is working out

just fine for them. Meanwhile, you and I are trying to follow Jesus, trying to be faithful, trying to forgive when staying angry would be so much easier, trying to trust God when life doesn't make sense, staying obedient when compromise would be so much simpler.

And somewhere along the way, a question starts to creep in. Why does this feel so hard? Wouldn't it be easier just to go with the flow? Is following Jesus really worth it?

If you've ever wrestled those questions, I know that I do. You're not alone. Jesus speaks directly to them. In Matthew 7, 13, he says,

Jesus gives us a picture of two roads. One's wide, one is narrow. One is easy to enter, the other requires intentionality. That's challenging because we often assume that if we're doing God's will,

life should feel easy. We assume that smooth means blessed and difficult means something is wrong. But that's not how scripture works. Noah obeyed God and was misunderstood.

Moses obeyed God and spent years in the wilderness. The disciples followed Jesus and faced hardship. Even Jesus himself walked the difficult road to the cross. The truth is, difficulty isn't always evidence that something's wrong.

Sometimes it's the evidence that something is right. Sometimes the hard road is the road of obedience. The difficult road is the road of faithfulness. So today, if you're following Jesus and it feels hard right now, don't be discouraged.

The struggle doesn't mean you're on the wrong road. It may be the very evidence that you're on the right one. Because the road that leads to life has always been worth walking. And Jesus is worth following every step of the way.

Let's pray. God, we thank you that you provide a way where we can follow you and we choose today out of obedience and faithfulness to go where you go. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
