Can Hibs and Motherwell Get the Job Done?

with Stephen I think Motherwell will progress

Hibs I think if they get that early goal I think they'll be okay

but they've certainly made it difficult for themselves haven't they

yeah let's let's talk a bit more about Hibs because I mean

last week Joelle probably didn't go according to David Graves

plan at all I mean how how do you think they will have assessed that performance yeah I think the word probably used them in football quite a lot post matches I think David Gray would have been frustrated um because the players never lived up to the individual and collective performance levels um he knows they can um so I think I frustrated David Gray after that um it was

disappointing as well. I think the manner that the goals were lost, the timings of the goals, it was just a poor performance all round and David Green knows that. He came out and admitted that in his post-match performance and obviously said silver lining is the fact that there is still one game to go which is obviously this evening at Easter Road.

Yeah he seemed quite optimistic in his press conference yesterday as well. He seems to think He's seen enough in training that he believes that they can turn it around. But Stephen, it's an interesting thing because we see this quite a lot with Scottish teams in Europe not being as sharp as their European counterparts.

Why do you think that is? I think if I knew that, Charlotte, I would be sitting here in a 16-room mansion. I think it's one of the great enigmas and mysteries of Scottish football, and one of the depressing enigmas is the really poor record

in European qualifiers at the beginning of the season. Now, it stands to reason. These teams are undercooked, so that is a factor, but it can't necessarily be an excuse against some of the nations

and the teams we're playing against. I think it's funny because we spend so much of the season talking about the race for Europe as being this great coveted prize, but in actual fact, it can also be a bit of a poison chalice

for managers, I think, if you look at it. I mean, I can think of a number of managers going back to the long, much maligned Pat Fenland after that defeat to Malmo many years ago. You look at Pedro Ketjinha in the bush with Rangers and Luxembourg. You look at Russell Martin not really recovering last year from that defeat to Club Bruges and even Graeme Alexander with Murrowell.

And for managers, it can be a really dangerous experience rather than this great prize, because if they get off to a bad start, it sets a really poor narrative for the season. and I think there was a bit of heat on David Gray after that first leg last week

so I think supporters are looking for significantly better and with Joel I think if Hibs can get an early goal they can still turn this around

I mean this is not a great European giant we're talking about I mean I think I saw somewhere last week that 2-0 defeat was ranked as the 8th worst by a Scottish side in a European competition

so Hibs have real motivation to turn this around and make sure they're in that next round for the progressing Europe. Yeah, you touched on David Gray as well.

I mean, the fans were quite vocal at full time in Kosovo last week. Does this game now, Stephen, become a must win for him? I mean, if it wasn't already.

Always feels ridiculous when we talk that way this early season, doesn't it? But I think you take it in the full context. I think you take it in the fact that

I think there were supporters towards the end of the season were beginning to feel rumblings. David Gray's been here before and he's overcome it. We think back to that now infamous time where I think there was a big game against Aberdeen

where people thought he was going to be out in his ear and there was that late goal which 96 minutes dragged Hibs back into it and he never looked back. He became one of the contenders for manager of the year. So he's overcome adversity before.

He's going to have to overcome adversity again here because I think if Hibs do go out to this team
